Polestar Free vs Premium

Polestar is free on WordPress.org. Polestar Premium is a plugin that adds 32 Customizer settings, a header widget area and footer credit removal, plus plugin updates and support. The free theme keeps the sticky header, the mobile menu, the blog settings, the WooCommerce settings and the Page Settings box.

What the Free Theme Includes

Each group below is a section of AppearanceCustomizeTheme Settings.

  • Header: Logo, Tagline, Header Layout, Sticky Header and Sticky Header Scales Logo.
  • Navigation: Header Menu, Mobile Menu, Menu Search, Post Navigation and Scroll to Top.
  • Typography: Heading Font, Body Font, and the Accent Color, Heading Color, Text Color and Secondary Text Color.
  • Blog: 13 settings for the post list and single posts, from Archive Featured Image to Related Posts.
  • Pages: Featured Image.
  • Sidebar: Position.
  • Footer: Footer Layout, Footer Text and Privacy Policy Link.
  • WooCommerce: Products Per Row, Shop Sidebar Position, Product Gallery, Mini Cart, Quick View and Add to Cart.
  • Page Settings box: layout, header overlap, title and margin settings for each page. See Page Settings.
  • Widget areas: Sidebar and Footer. Shop Sidebar appears when WooCommerce is active.

What Polestar Premium Adds

  • Header: Retina Logo, Background Color, Border Color, Bottom Margin and Padding.
  • Header widget area: a widget area named Header at AppearanceWidgets. When it has widgets, it replaces the entire contents of the header.
  • Navigation: Mobile Menu Collapse, Link Color, Link Hover Color, Current Link Color, five drop-down colors, Menu Search Background Color and Menu Search Text Color.
  • Typography: Site Title Font, Site Tagline Font, Site Title Color, Site Tagline Color, Border Color and Element Background Color.
  • Blog: Ajax Comments. Visitors post a comment with no page reload.
  • Sidebar: Width.
  • Footer: Widget Title Color, Widget Title Underline Color, Widget Text Color, Widget Link Color, Border Color, Background Color, Padding, Top Margin.
  • Footer credit: the plugin removes the “Theme by Puro” link. See Remove the Footer Credit.
  • Updates and support: plugin updates with a license key, and email support. See Managing Your Premium License.

The settings in the Premium groups above show in the Customizer only when the plugin is active. Without it, the free theme shows one Polestar Premium section under More Options.

Requirements

Polestar Premium works with Polestar or a child theme of Polestar. It adds nothing under another theme. Polestar Premium is a plugin. Install it at PluginsAdd Plugin. See Installing Polestar Premium.

Price

A single site license and a multi site license are sold per year. The Polestar page shows the current prices. A single site license can be upgraded to multi site later for the price difference.
