Adding Menu Icons

To add an icon next to a menu item, use the Menu Icons plugin by Themeisle. It works on classic menus.

The menus you see depend on your theme. A classic theme shows Customize in Appearance, plus Menus and Widgets when it supports them. A block theme shows Editor in place of Customize, unless the theme or a plugin adds Customizer settings. It shows Menus or Widgets only when it supports them. Polestar, Ultra and the Puro theme are classic themes.

Classic Admin Screens

  1. Go to PluginsAdd Plugin, then install and activate Menu Icons.
  2. Go to AppearanceMenus.
  3. Click the down arrow on a menu item to open it.
  4. Next to Icon:, click Select and choose an icon.
  5. Click Save Menu.

The plugin adds its icon picker to the Menus screen. It does not add one to the Customizer menus panel, so use the Menus screen.

Block Themes

Menus in a block theme are Navigation blocks. The plugin adds no icon field to the Navigation block. The steps above are for classic menus.
