A child theme lets you change Ultra’s template files and keep your changes when the theme updates. Changes made to the parent theme in AppearanceTheme File Editor are lost at the next update. For CSS changes alone, use the Customizer instead. See Custom CSS Snippets.
Starter Child Theme
The starter child theme has a style.css file and a functions.php file. The functions file loads the parent stylesheet. It changes nothing else.
Install the Child Theme
- Go to AppearanceThemes and click Add Theme.
- Click Upload Theme and choose
ultra-child.zip. - Click Install Now.
- Click Activate.
Keep the parent Ultra theme installed. The child theme needs it.
WordPress stores Customizer settings and Additional CSS per theme. The child theme starts with default settings. Set your Theme Settings again after you activate it.
For how child themes work, see Creating a Child Theme.
