If you’d like to build a static home page using rows, columns and widgets then Page Builder by SiteOrigin is a great option. Page Builder can be installed from PluginsAdd New, search for Page Builder by SiteOrigin in the top right search field. Once activated, you can either manage your home page at PagesHome (or whatever your home page is called) or use the shortcut AppearanceHome Page.
