I’d like to remove the text that appears when the mouse hovers over featured images on posts. It’s not only distracting, but it can lead to the path going to a category search rather then straight to the post. How can I do this?

    Hi 🙂

    Thanks for reaching out.

Image titles are generated by WordPress, the theme isn’t generating the title tag for featured images.

I did a quick search now and You can perhaps try a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/image-title-remove/

The title tag doesn’t have any impact over the URL the image is linked to so it sounds like something else is happening there.

Hi, thanks for a quick reply.
It’s not the title text I’m trying to remove: it’s the categories. When the mouse hovers it doesn’t show the image title (as shown when the image is uploaded), it shows the post title and the categories. There’s just nowhere I can find to change this. I’m using Site-origin Page Builder (premium), and they don’t have anywhere to adjust this, so I’m assuming it’s a template thing rather than a WP thing.

    Sure, no problem.

The category tags on the featured image are linked, just as they would be if they were more standard post meta under the post title. You can deactivate post categories from Customize > Theme Settings > Blog.

Does that disconnect the categories from the post generally? I’m asking because I am organising two posts pages using categories; I just don’t want them to show inside the image. I don’t want to undo my work! Many thanks for helping.

With theme settings it’s really quick to disable a setting and check the site and then enable it again if you prefer the previous state. Put another way, theme settings are a safe space to experiment, nothing in Customizer > Theme Settings has any permanent impact.

All this particular setting does is remove the categories listed on the featured image.

Hmmm, thanks. I tried that and it doesn’t make any difference.

Thanks. It’s easiest to take the site out of maintenance mode for a few minutes.

    Thanks.

The reason that the Polestar blog settings don’t impact those pages is that isn’t the Polestar blog, it’s a widget.
The blog settings only impact the core theme blog: https://demo.purothemes.com/polestar/blog/.

The LiveMesh Portfolio widget is handling the output on those pages. Is there an option in the widget to disable the categories?

Edit the LiveMesh Grid widget on the page concerned, open the Post Meta section, disable the taxonomy setting.
