sera.4400ParticipantHi, all–
So I’m currently constructing/customizing this site via Ultra Premium, but have been encountering a number of problems with the site’s menus since I first began. The most worrisome is this: when I make *any* changes to either menu items or menu locations, they don’t seem to update on the actual site at all. For example, at the moment, I’ve repeatedly removed my “main toolbar” (and all other menus) from all 4 possible locations — but there are still 10 pages, some of which were NEVER menu items at all (??), displayed in fragments across my header. They don’t show up in the live “customizer” window, but they’re there whenever I actually visit the site.
Does anyone know what’s going wrong here, and/or how to fix it? The site really needs to be live quite soon, so any help would be **very** much appreciated!!!
[Also, here’s another related (but slightly less urgent) question. One consistent problem with the primary menu is that, because I’m using a full-width site header, the menu items are either scrambled or themselves scramble the header background. Is there any way to edit the CSS stylesheet so that the menu is *only* a vertical dropdown, rather than horizontally displayed? I’m trying to work around this by changing all the menu items to attributes of an empty parent page, simply entitled “Main Menu.” But I’m not sure if this will actually work, especially because my changes aren’t showing up at all right now (see above).]
Thanks so much in advance!

sera.4400ParticipantI realize “maintenance mode” is on, which means you won’t be able to view the current site through the link I posted. So here’s a screenshot of the home page right now (again, with all menus deselected and ostensibly inactive):

Andrew MisplonKeymasterHi Sera
Thanks for reaching out. I can certainly take a deep look tomorrow. I’m wrapping things up here for the day at GMT+2.
Caching
Usually, any time where you make admin changes and don’t see the change live it’s due to a caching plugin. If you have one installed, you should clear the cache and deactivate until development is complete.Menus
Please, email me on [email protected], email support is part of premium. Please, create a user account so we can check out what’s happening with the header and menus that definitely isn’t as expected.User Account
Head over to Users > Add New, create a new account:Username: puro

Enable the option to email the password to the new user. You can delete the account once we’re done. I’m sure we can quickly resolve the challenges highlighted above.
Thanks

sera.4400ParticipantThanks *very* much for the speedy (and informative!) response, Andrew! I’ve just added you as an admin. Oddly enough, I’m pretty sure I don’t have any caching plugins installed at the moment — but maybe I’m missing something, because I’ve noticed that the problem is actually just as you describe: not only customization of the menu, but almost *any* other kind of customization (for example, changing the slider in “Theme Settings > Home”), isn’t translating to the live website.
Anyway, looking forward to getting your insight into all of this soon! And thanks again for your generous help.

Andrew MisplonKeymasterThanks for the wait. You didn’t have a custom menu assigned to the primary menu location. That’s the reason that no updates were showing. A menu has to be assigned to a theme location for it to reflect on the site. You can have multiple custom menus but they only show on your site once linked to a location.
Ultra isn’t really designed for a full-width logo like the one you’re trying to add. I’ve assigned an empty menu to the primary menu location and moved your logo from the header background field to the logo field as the background field isn’t ideal for a logo. I’ve added Custom CSS to allow the logo to be full-width.
This brings up other issues, though, there is no mobile menu in the header for example. The site can at least be launched as is, using the sidebar menu as the main navigation.
Do you perhaps want to put the header menu below your logo? I can perhaps make adjustments to make that possible.

Andrew MisplonKeymasterHi 🙂 I had another chance to look at this. I’ve added your main menu below the full-width logo. The changes that were required are at
Appearance > Edit CSS
. I hope that helps.October 29, 2016 at 1:21 am #5442
sera.4400ParticipantDear Andrew:
I know this message comes *very* belatedly — but I just wanted you to know how much I appreciated (and still appreciate) your attentiveness and expert help with all this. Sincerest apologies for not having expressed my thanks when you first swooped in to save the day (it had been an unusually busy time, and I soon entirely forgot that I hadn’t yet responded to you). But, for the record, I really can’t overstate my gratitude. So, once again: a thousand thanks for your generous help!-S

Andrew MisplonKeymasterNo problem at all. Thanks so much for messaging. I appreciate the “thank you”.
All the best 🙂

sera.4400ParticipantHi there, Andrew —
Sera here again! I was hoping that you might be able to help me with a new problem I’ve been having with my site’s header…? It really should be quite simple to straighten out, I think, but I just can’t seem to manage it myself.
Basically, the problem is this: I’ve just activated a child theme, but now my primary menu (directly below the header) is showing up as superimposed on the homepage slider, rather than on the blue background “container” that was meant to extend/match the header banner. I *do* like that the menu items are now at a greater distance from the header, but I was also definitely hoping I could keep the header “fill” color behind the navigation menu as a whole!
Not sure if I’ve explained the issue clearly enough — but if so, just let me know. I really would be very, *very* grateful for any insight you might have into this! Anyway, thanks so much for your time + patience.
All best wishes,
S

Andrew MisplonKeymasterHi Sera, sure 🙂 I’m not immediately sure of the issue. Do you want to quickly move all Customizer settings from the parent to the child to make sure you got them all?
1. Download and activate: https://wordpress.org/plugins/customizer-export-import/.
2. Switch to parent theme.Appearance > Customize > Import/Export
, download the file.
3. Switch to child theme.Appearance > Customize > Import/Export
, upload the file and select option to import media.February 13, 2017 at 4:27 am #5932
sera.4400ParticipantThanks so much for the speedy response, Andrew! I’ve actually already configured and activated the child theme; the problem is just that, if you take a look at the site now (post-child theme installation), you’ll notice that the primary navigation menu — located just beneath the logo-imprinted header — is superimposed on the homepage slider, instead of set against a solid-color background *above* the slider (as it had been positioned previously). I’d link to before and after photos, but I can’t seem to find a cached version of the website. But I can probably also uninstall the child theme and take a snapshot, if that’ll make spotting the issue easier.
Let me know if this explanation makes more sense to you! And thanks again for your time.

Andrew MisplonKeymasterThanks 🙂 I follow the problem, my idea was to check that all the settings were the same without needing to investigate why this happening. A low hanging fruit start to troubleshooting. No problem. Please, switch back to the parent theme and I’ll take a look and try and see where the issue is.
February 17, 2017 at 3:13 am #5959
sera.4400ParticipantAh, understood! Sorry for my delayed response. Switching back to the parent theme now.
February 17, 2017 at 3:18 am #5960
sera.4400ParticipantUpdate: I’ve just reverted to the parent theme, and now the menu bar is *too high*, rather than too short! (Also, the menu items are stacking again, rather than displaying in one line, as you’d arranged after I posted my original question in this thread.)
Thanks again, as always, for your help. Very, very grateful.

Andrew MisplonKeymasterPlease, could you take a look now and let me know where we stand. Thanks.
