leanpaulParticipantHi Andrew, newbie here again. I have built my site using Ultra and everything’s good except I now realize I should have first created and used a child theme so things don’t fall apart at the next update. I don’t know anything about css coding though I can cut/paste and type. Can you help with advice? Thanks in advance

Andrew MisplonKeymasterGlad to hear the site’s coming along.
Did you edit theme files at a code level? Perhaps via
Appearance > Editor
or directly via FTP upload and download? If not, no update loss will occur. When WP themes and plugins update their entire folder is overwritten. This means that code edits will be lost. Everything else like settings, content, widget locations, those are all safe as they stored in the database.

leanpaulParticipantWell, I certainly didn’t change any code manually. I used Appearance>Customize>Theme settings, page settings etc. Some widgets like MetaSlider, SiteOrigin PageBuilder, also to change fonts and so on. Will this be safe from updates in the future? Thanks

Andrew MisplonKeymaster100% safe, you don’t need a child theme for the above normal use cases. All of your work is safely stored in the WP database.
